Jensyn ~ 5 Months

September2011 129

So, it’s slightly blurry and more than a little goofy, but this pictures makes me grin!

Jensyn is now 5 months (and 10 days) old.  I’m really not sure where the time has gone.  No doctor visits this month, no idea how much she weighs, nothing astonishing to post…but she’s growing, she’s doing more, and it’s time to document that!

The biggest news this month is that she’s eating!  If you can’t tell by the pictures, Jensyn is pretty happy about that.  I fully intended to wait until 6 months, but she was chewing on air every night at dinner and looking longingly at my food at every meal.  She broke me down!

It started with letting her lick a piece of watermelon.  She kept going back for more licks!  A few days, she was crying for my food, and I just couldn’t resist.  I got up, made a small bowl of brown rice cereal, and she CHOWED as if we’d been starving her!

We’re still not 100% consistent.  I feed her if it’s convenient.  If it’s not, she can just have milk.  She’d had both organic oatmeal and brown rice cereal made with water and a splash of fruit juice.  She also had a tub of Gerber oatmeal and fruit left from Max’s baby days…don’t worry – it wasn’t expired! ;)

Jensyn likes her Bumbo seat for about 5 - 10 minutes at a time.  (Well, really, she likes all baby seats/bouncy seats/swings for short times.  She’d much rather be held!)  It sure was convenient to have it when we were camping a few weeks ago!

Speaking of the camping trip, here she is wearing Daddy’s hat at Uncle Dave’s picnic table.  She didn’t sleep well the first night, but she was a fairly good little camper other than that.  (Not that it’s easy camping with three very small kids, but she did as well as you could expect a baby to do.)August2011 241

I’ve noticed that she LOVES to be around little girls.  She loves all kids, but I’m starting to think she realizes when the attention is coming from girls.  There seems to be more happy noises, smiles, and squeals.  Whether it’s a cousin, a little girl playing at our house, or if Jensyn is at Bunco with Mommy enjoying the attention of the hostess’ daughters, she just seems happy around girls!

She is LOVING the baby swing on our playset.  As soon as you set her in there, she’s all smiles!

Schedule:

8 AM ~ up for the day (give or take 20 minutes)

10 AM ~ morning nap for about 1 hour

2 PM ~ afternoon nap for 2 – 3 hours

8 PM ~ bedtime

Bedtime is TOUGH, as that’s when the boys are getting a bath and going to bed.  We’re trying to rearrange bedtime routines in a way that doesn’t leave Jensyn screaming for 20 minutes or keep the boys up too late.  (It’s rarely pleasant in our house from 7:45 – 8:15 PM…usually someone’s screaming…and sometimes it’s Mommy or Daddy, ha ha!)

Sometimes she wakes around 2 or 3 AM to nurse.  Other times, she wakes around 5 – 6 AM to nurse.  (Usually not both.)  In the past week, she’s slept through from 8 PM – 8 AM three times.  I’m all for that becoming routine! ;)

Jensyn does one thing that neither of the boys did…she DESIRES to go to sleep on her own.  Feed her, change her, lay her in her crib wide awake.  She WANTS to fall asleep without being snuggled, cuddled, rocked, or listening to Mommy sing.  Just lay her down, pat her back, and walk away.  When she does fall asleep in my arms, I just can’t let go.  She’s the last baby, so I really want to cherish those moments!

She’s still close to being able to sit up, but not doing it independently.  She doesn’t care to roll, either. She can.  Every once in a while, she’ll do it and it seems very intentional.  She just doesn’t see the need.  Jensyn is the kind of girl who seems quite content with staying put.  She was never a big kicker when she was in my belly, and she’s still happy to just “be”.

She still LOVES her daddy, and she lights up when he comes in the room.  In the past month, though, she has become a big Mama’s Girl!  She’s fine with other people for a while, but when she’s a little tired or fussy…watch out!  She’ll look at me longingly and SCREAM!

September2011 029She’ll talk now and then, squeal, let out a happy shriek.  I’m hearing less of that “KKKK” sound.  Mostly, she wants to take it all in and quietly observe her surroundings.  She loves to watch her brothers, watch the doggy, watch the world around her.  That’s Jensyn right now – observe it all, take it in, lay back and watch.

The best way I can get giggles from her is to lay her on her changing table and make silly faces and noises.  The more startled she is by the noise, the more she’ll giggle.  Her brothers get the best giggles by running around and around the room while she looks on.

Her favorite toy is her play gym.  That’s the place she’ll stay the longest if you set her down.  Her favorite little toy is probably her crinkly book, but she enjoys looking at/touching other board books, too.  She’s using the Jumperoo more often, but it’s usually only for a few minutes at a time.  She’s learning that she can jump in there, and her face lights up with delight when she realizes she’s done it! :)

Growing, changing, developing a little more personality every day…oh, how we love this sweet baby girl!  Life is crazy at our house, but it’s WORTH IT!

Happy 5 Months, Jensyn Kate!  We love you lots & lots!

Growing, Growing, and soon she'll be gone! Oh my heck so will mine!

My little Page was one, who and still is one, who wants to sleep on her own.

Tell you what I sure wish I could stick my kids to bed at eight! But then I'd be up at five....ya not going to happen, yet.
