What Jensyn Says…

DSCN0739

Two year olds can say some pretty funny things!  Jensyn has had a few good ones lately that I want to share before they slip my mind.

Please feel free to leave a comment sharing some of the funny things your children have said lately, or even an old favorite from when your older kiddos were small!

---------------------

Jensyn asked me if I remember being a baby.  When I told her that I don’t,  here is the conversation we had:

Jensyn: But I remember being a baby.
Mommy: You do?
Jensyn: Yes!  I even remember being in your belly!
Mommy: Really?!
Daddy: What was it like in there?
Jensyn: DARK.

Jensyn went on to tell us that there was lots of room in my belly, and she had fun playing with her baby dolls in there.  It’s just the one word answer of “DARK” that had us laughing!

--------------------

Jensyn walked up to me and said:

Jensyn: They fallin’ in love!
Mommy:  They are?  Who?  Who is falling in love?
Jensyn:  Cinderella and the Prince!  They are going to be married and josephed!

----------------------------

We were shopping for new end tables for our living room, and the saleslady asked how old the kids are.

Alex:  I’m Alex, and I’m 6.

Max:  I’m Max, and I’m 4.

Jensyn:  I’m Zensyn, and I’m 7.

At Least He’s Creative ;)

IMG_0194

Alex: Hey mom, the arm came off of Jensyn's Princess Peach car, but I glued it back together all by myself!!

Mom: Where did you find glue?

Alex: I couldn't find a glue stick, so I used your chapstick!

Ugh. Guess I'll be buying a new tube of chapstick!

Alex & Max, November 2012

Just wanted to jot down these reasons we smile before I forget…

Alex, a few weeks ago, singing John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt:

“John Jacob Hemo-Margarine Smith…”

Oh, how we laughed when we realized what he was singing! :)November2012 116Alex is SO into singing lately.  If he’s in a large group, he is quiet.  He doesn’t really sing in church or in his preschool class at Story Hour.  When he’s home, though, he is ALWAYS singing.  He loves to sing praise songs from church and Story Hour, and he loves to make up his own songs.  He also turns life into a mini-musical by singing a lot of what he says to me throughout the day.

He loves going to his Sunday School, Wee Worship, and Story Hour classes.  He is soaking up the Bible lessons, has memorized the names of the New Testament books of the Bible through 2 Thessalonians, and has a really neat understanding of the Bible.   Keith & I smile as Alex randomly bursts into church song or shares something from the Bible with us!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Max, last night, after falling down the stairs (don’t worry – he’s just fine!)…
Me, hearing the crashing noise and Max’s cry:  “Max did you just fall down the stairs?!”
Max, in tears: “No, Mommy, my butt went down the stairs before me!”November2012 118
Max is in a stage where he mostly likes to imitate what his big brother is doing.  He plays what Alex plays.  He says what Alex says.  He likes to “hum” while he plays, or sing little tunes with “babbly”  words.  He doesn’t sing real songs most of the time.  He is definitely not just like Alex, but he has learned his style of play from watching big brother.
Max is finally getting close to potty training.  He’s been very stubborn and resistant, but it seems he is finally starting to care.  Because he’s showed progress, I allowed him to go to Alex’s Sunday School class and Wee Worship this past weekend.  He was so proud to go to big boy class!  If he does well on the potty again this week, he may go to class again next Sunday.  (Gee, that sounds awful when I see it in writing!  You’re supposed to be three years old AND potty trained to attend, so I really am following the rules…not just offering a crazy bribe!)
To this point, he has opted NOT to go to Alex’s Story Hour class.  Max would rather play in the nursery.  They compliment him in the nursery there, saying he is such a good boy and that they love having him in class.  I think he soaks up the attention there, but I told him that after Christmas, it’s time to start going to class at Story Hour.  I know he’s ready to learn, but at the same time, I hate to think that Baby #2 is turning into a big boy!  My babies are getting big far too quickly!
(Pictures are of a parking garage that Alex built out of blocks…he was very proud of this creation!)
What Letter Says “OO”?
Alex was feeling squished while taking a bath with Max last night.
Alex said to Max, "Move out of my way. Move, as in c-a-k-e!! Uh, I mean, m...m...m...Hey, Mommy, what letter says OOO?!"
That’s just one of many of the little things that make me giggle as Alex is learning that letters make words.  This is a pretty fun stage in his development :)
I Was Wrong ;)
As we were unloading groceries earlier today, Alex asked me why there was a picture of Sponge Bob on the box. I told him, "There's a little Sponge Bob toy in the box."
When I came back to the kitchen with another bag of groceries, there stood Alex with the cereal box ripped open. He looked at me and said, "Mom, you were WRONG! There's CEREAL in here!"
4 year olds are SO literal sometimes! :)
Minnie Mouse Has A Tummy Ache
Before I forget…
Max just walked up to me carrying Mr. Potato Head dressed as Minnie Mouse.
August2012 025
He looks up at me and says, very seriously, “Minnie Mouse has a tummy ache, Mom.”
I said, “Oh no!  I hope she will be okay.”
Max replied, “Do you want to see WHY Minnie has a tummy ache?”
(Or, really… “Do woo want to see WHY Minnie ‘as a dummy ache?”)
He then proceeded up open up the Potato Head and show me what was inside.
Six plastic strawberries.
August2012 024
He said, “Minnie ate too many strawberries, so she got a tummy ache.  Strawberries are good for you, but you should never eat too many strawberries.  You will get a tummy ache.”
Not the funniest thing ever, but SOOOO cute in the way he said it so seriously!
I just love the way he talks at almost three.  He’s got a lot goin’ on in that little brain! ;)
Why I Love Alex
June2012 476
Today at lunch Alex asked me when Jensyn is going to turn two.  I told him, “Not for a long time.  You and Max will have birthdays before Jensyn does.”
Alex said, “After Max is two, he will be three.  After I am four, I will be five.”
I said, “And after Mommy is thirty five, she will be __?___”
Alex replied with confidence, “SIXTEEN!”
Oh yes, Alex…you are Mommy’s new favorite child.
Diarrhea Chips
On Monday, we had quesadillas & baby carrots for lunch. Max finished his quesadilla, and then he asked me if he could have some "diarrhea chips ee salsa". I could be wrong, but I'm thinking he meant tortilla chips and salsa! ;)
This kid…he cracks me up every day!
A Bit of Advice
May2012 234
I have a new toothbrush now.
And you got your laugh for the day :)
3:41 AM
Our boys are pretty good at sleeping through the night.  They’re usually in bed between 8 – 8:30 PM, and we don’t hear a peep out of them until 7 AM.  Jensyn…well, we’re getting there.
Last night, I stayed up late to finish up a good book I was reading.  I shut down the Kindle at 1 AM.  I should know better than to stay up that late when I have three little ones!
At 2 AM, Jensyn was awake to nurse.  Once I went back to bed, I figured I’d be good ‘til 7 AM.
Nope.  Alex, who NEVER gets us up in the night, wandered into our room at 3:41 AM.  I figured he’d had a bad dream, he didn’t feel well, he was scared…
Not quite.
You know why he woke me up?  He stood next to my bed, looked at me, and said, “Mom, can you wake me up when my clock says 7?”
REALLY?!  Alex, you get up at 7 AM every day without any help from mommy.  Why on EARTH did you need to ask me that in the middle of the night?
I sleepily replied, “Honey, you’re always up when the clock says 7.  It’ll be fine.  Now go back to bed.”
And he did.
After Alex left the room, Keith started chuckling.  I couldn’t help but giggle, too.  Of all the reasons to wake your parents…
Kiddo, it’s a GOOD THING you are cute and loveable because waking Mommy at 3:41 AM for THAT isn’t really a good idea. :)
A Gold Balloon
I’m probably the only one who will smile at this one, but I wanted to remember it:
This morning, only minutes after finishing his breakfast, Alex came running up to me with mischievous, hopeful eyes.  He said, “Mommy, can I have a gold balloon?”
It took me a minute to figure out what he meant.  He was really trying to say, “Mommy, can I have a gold doubloon?”
The boys have recently started watching “Jake and the Neverland Pirates”.  They love to count the gold doubloons.  (Even Max can count them correctly, which impresses me.)
March2012 078
For St. Patrick’s Day, we sent the boys on a little scavenger hunt around the house.  It led to a jar of gold (chocolate) coins and Skittles candies.
Yep, Alex thought that the leprechauns brought him some pirate’s gold ;)
So, for making his mommy smile at 8:30 AM, he earned himself some early morning chocolate!
As long as I’m on the subject, I might as well share this one, too.  Yesterday at church, Alex told everyone that his name is Cubby and his mommy’s name is Captain Hook.  Yep.  Thanks, Alex.
Hide & Seek
Earlier this week, Alex, Max, and Grace were playing hide and seek together.  At one point, all three children were hiding at the same time.  I decided to wait and see how long it would take them to realize nobody was seeking.
After 10 minutes of the occasional “Yoo-Hoo!”, they finally figured it out.  It was a nice, quiet 10 minutes for me, though ;)
Here is Max’s hiding spot.  I’m sure no one would have found him here, would they?
You’ve got to love a 2 year old’s thinking process!
Alex :)
We are just so in love with the things that Alex says.  Sometimes we are amazed by the serious, thoughtful things he says.  Sometimes we laugh at the funny things he says.  (This boy has a good sense of humor!)
January2012 003
Last night, as I was tucking him in to bed, he had a good one…
I kissed him good night, and I told him, “I will ALWAYS love you – no matter what you say or what you do, Mommy will ALWAYS love you, buddy!”  (Once in a while, I like to remind him that my love for him is not dependent on his actions or behavior…)
Alex looked at me and said, “Uh, Mom, are you pretending to be God?”
-------------------
A few weeks ago, Alex was trying to convince us that they should go spend the day at Grandma and Papa’s house.  It wasn’t going to work out on that particular day, but Alex wasn’t about to give up on his plan.
After lots of pushing, he said, “But Mom, Max and I want to go to Grandma and Papa’s house to get some peace and quiet from YOU!”
He didn’t mean to be rude; I think he’s just heard me say that, once in a while, Grandma and Papa watch the kids so that Daddy & Mommy can have a peaceful dinner.
------------------
Alex was singing Jingle Bells today.  Yes, in February.  “Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse soap and sleigh…”  (We realized at Christmas time that he was singing it incorrectly.  We taught him the correct way, but once in a while he still forgets.
-------------
I think there are a few more, but I lost the slip of paper that I wrote them on.  (Do you do that?  How do you remember the cute things your kids say?)  Hopefully I’ll find that scrap of paper soon! :)
The Story
Our church is reading through The Story this year, with each age category (adults, teens, children, preK) working at their own level of understanding.  We’re up to the book of Joshua, and Alex is coming to know his Old Testament stories better than we thought possible for a three year old.
His New Testament, though…well…we’re gonna have to work on that:
Lunchtime, a few days ago…
Alex (playing with his noodles):  Look, Mom!  I made a cross!
Mom: Nice, Alex!  Hey, do you know who died on the cross?
Alex:  JESUS!!!!!!
Mom: Well, do you know WHY he died on the cross?
Alex:  Uh, because he was getting old?
Another Alex Funny…
Just getting this one written down before we forget…
Last night at dinner, Max let out a bloodcurdling scream because he didn’t want to eat his dinner.  (Sigh.)
Alex jumped because he hadn’t expected that, and he said, “That really scared the NIGHTLIGHTS out of me!”
Silly Max…
We’re finally reaching a point where Max, although he still speaks with only a handful of consonant sounds, is really starting to talk.  He puts together sentences, shares his opinions, and is starting to make us laugh.  This stage was so much fun when Alex was little.  I’m looking forward to giggling at Max’s words in the coming months!
October2011 058
Last night at the boys’ bedtime, we read our story and got ready to pray.  As always, I asked Alex and Max what was the happiest thing about their day.
Alex answered, “Playing with Daddy!”
Max parroted his brother, “Pway wiff Daddy!”
I then asked the boys, “Who would you like to pray for tonight?”
Alex said that he’d like to pray for Max.
Max said that he’d like to pray for Sax.
The conversation then went like this:
Mommy, quite confused: Sax?
Max: Yes.
Mommy: Do you mean Max?
Max: No.
Mommy: Do you mean Alex?
Max: No.
Mommy: Then who do you want to pray for?
Max: SAX!
Mommy: Who is Sax?
Max: I doh-know.
Mommy: Then why do you want to pray for him?
Max, very insistently: Pway foh Sax!
So we did.  Alex giggled through the entire prayer.  Whoever Sax might be, he’s been prayed for by two goofy, giggly little boys! :)
Oh, Alex…
September2011 186
First off, the stories on CD are working!  Alex loves to pick a CD before his nap, and about three out of four times he falls asleep while listening.  If he’s still awake when the CD ends, he may quietly leave the room without bothering Max…and Alex has still had a 45 minute rest time.  Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions!
We do have a new “issue” with the CD player, though.  (I think we need speakers for my old MP3 player so I can just hook that up in his room instead of a big ‘ol CD player…)
There’s an LCD display on the CD player, and he wakes up panicking if the numbers are still on the display.  That means I’m supposed to sneak in & shut off the CD player when the CD ends.  If I don’t, then he panics and cries because “the numbers are still there, Mommy!”
---
I attend a Bible Study on Tuesday mornings, and Alex goes to a preschool class at the church during the study.  Max goes to a toddler nursery, and Jensyn stays with me.  Last week, Max stayed home with Grandma & Papa because I didn’t want him sharing his lingering germs with all of the toddlers.
As we were driving home, Alex said, “Mom, I go to my class, and you go to a class.  Where does Jensyn go?  Does she have a nursery class?”
I told him, “I could put her in nursery, honey, but she’s usually hungry during that time.  Jensyn stays with Mommy. That way, if she has to nurse, Mommy can feed her.”
Alex replied, “You don’t have to keep her with you, Mom.  Somebody else could nurse her!”
“Oh yeah, Alex?  Who’s going to do that?”  I asked.
Alex got quiet for a few minutes as he thought about that.  Then he called out, “I know!  Sabrina’s mom!  I believe Miss Karen knows how to nurse!”
Apparently, in Alex’s world, it’s okay to have your friend nurse your baby. ;)
----
Not long ago, we had chili and cornbread for supper.  The chili was hot, so I spooned a little sour cream on top.  I told him, “Stir in the sour cream, Alex.  It will cool your chili for you!”
A few days later, we had grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch.  His soup was steaming in the bowl.  Alex popped up from the table and ran to the fridge, shouting “I know what I need!”
You guessed it…he came back with sour cream, spooned a little into his soup, and seemed to like it that way.  (I think it sounds kind of gross, but hey…I can’t argue with his logic.)  He is so independent these days.  We’re still getting used to that!
---
Recently, we had a rotten night.  None of the kids wanted me to sleep, I guess.  Jensyn wanted to nurse, Max needed comfort, and Alex couldn’t find anything to blow his nose.  Then Jensyn wanted to nurse again.  (She’s teething and uncomfortable, so she’s waking more…)  Ugh.  I was exhausted, and I was finally sleeping HARD when Alex came crying into our bedroom.  He said, “Mommy!  Mommy!  I had to go potty and I couldn’t reach the bathroom light”!
I stumbled down the hall, half awake, turned on the bathroom light, and Alex thanked me and went back to bed.  Huh?  That doesn’t make any sense!  But it was almost morning, so I was awake for the day.
I asked Alex about it when he got up, and he said he’d already gone potty.  He just needed me to turn the light on so he could find his way back to bed.  His bedroom is right next to the bathroom.  Mine is down a dark hallway.  So he could find his way all the way down the hall to my bedroom, but he couldn’t walk into his night-lighted room.  Go figure.
---
I just found this post in draft mode, so I deleted the post & just added it here…
While on vacation this past week, we visited a church near our hotel.  We felt very welcome at this small community church.
It was “Family Sunday”, meaning that they had no children’s classes or nursery.  Sitting near our family can be a little entertaining sometimes!
Sitting in between us, Alex was staring at the cross in front of church.  After looking at it for a bit, he asked, “Who died on THIS cross, Mom?”   I guess he thought that Jesus died on the cross in the front of our home church, so someone else must have died on this cross! ;)
A little later, he was again staring at the front of church.  He looked up near the ceiling and said, “Look Mom, GOD is up there!”  Turns out it was a stained glass window with a picture of Jesus…
Alex’s Stage Debut
We just finished VBS week at our church.  This year, Alex was old enough to be in the preschool group.  He was not interested in singing all week long, even though the songs were GREAT!  (Check out Go Fish’s Kickin’ It Old School VBS…the songs are so much fun!)
On Friday, the preschoolers practiced singing Jesus Loves Me and This Little Light of Mine for their part of the VBS closing program.  We figured we’d be lucky if Alex was brave enough to get on stage.  If he did, he’d stand there without singing.
I wasn’t planning to video the performance, but as I started to take a picture, I realized Alex was SINGING!  I flipped my camera over to video mode and got a grainy video…but I’m so glad I did.  We’ll be laughing about this for ages!
He’s in the white t-shirt on the right side.  He’ll be hard to miss during This Little Light of Mine.  Trust me. ;)
We're so proud of him for being brave enough to get on stage and sing! Good job, Alex! (Thanks for the laughs, too, Little Man!)
He’s Gonna Stay Little! :)
Sunday morning conversation while getting ready for church…
Daddy:  Alex, are you gonna be strong someday?
Alex: Nope.   I’m not gonna be even a grown-up.
Alex went on to say that he’s “just going to stay a big boy”.  Keith asked him if he wanted to turn four, and Alex said no.  He’s just going to stay three.
Finally!  One of my kiddos is cooperating with my request to stay little! ;)
Tiny Talk
(Another stuck in draft post...I think this one is from November 2010, and I have no idea if I've ever posted it!)
At Pizza Hut on Sunday night…
Mommy: Alex, what would you like on your pizza tonight?
Alex: Sugar.
Mmm, tasty?! I explained that he had to choose a MEAT to go on top of his pizza. Then he chose pepperoni.
-----------
I had Bunco at our house one night last week. Keith had the boys for the evening. He took them for a long walk, and then he and the boys went to visit Grandma & Papa for a while.
As soon as they got back home, Alex ran up to me and sat on my lap to watch the girls play Bunco. After a little while, Keith called Alex get ready for bed. Alex headed to his bedroom with Daddy for stories and prayer.
When Keith came out of Alex’s room, he shared Alex’s prayer request with me…
Daddy: Alex, what do you want to pray for tonight?
Alex: Mommy and her friends in the living room and her friends in the kitchen.
It’s not overly funny, but it was just so sweet! When he woke up the next morning, the first thing he did was run around the house looking for all of Mommy’s friends. He was pretty disappointed that everyone was gone! :)
--------
Little words that make me smile…
Puffy Dog = puppy dog, his favorite stuffed animal
Breck-six = breakfast
duts = dust (“Mommy, I want to help you duts the living room!)
mitzer = Mr. (He calls Max, “Hey, Little Mitzer” and he calls all men by their names, like “There’s Mitzer Tom!”)
