Tot School (25 months)

I didn’t take many pictures this week. (Shocking, since Keith lovingly refers to me as “The Camera Nazi”.) What we did is really no different from any of the past few weeks; just substitute the letter G for our alphabet activities! ;)

I thought I’d try something a little different this time, sharing a few other things we do throughout the week.

Alex is very limited in his screen-time, whether it’s TV or computer. He LOVES all things electronic, though, so anything done on the computer is a real treat.

First off, I want to mention Alex’s VERY FAVORITE alphabet activity. If you can hit the space bar, you’re big enough to play the game!

Fisher Price has an ABC Zoo game on their website, and Alex just adores it. He loves to call out the alphabet letter, name the animal, or make the animal’s noise. (And yes, he is pushing the space bar with a Dairy Queen spoon. I've stopped wondering why he does what he does...)

Another fun alphabet website is apples4theteacher, where you can use the computer mouse to do online coloring pages such as “g is for giraffe”.

One other thing we do a lot, as I imagine happens in many homes with toddlers, is READ, READ, READ! Alex loves to sit and read stories with us. His current favorites are:

Curious George books Corduroy books

Tacky The Penguin books John Deere books

BIBLE STORIES AT BEDTIME
After his bath, all snuggled in his jammies, Alex goes running into his bedroom saying, “Bye-boh, bye-boh!”. Oh, this is my FAVORITE time of the day!

We read a Bible story together, followed by singing and prayer. Sometimes he says the song words with me, but no tune yet. His current favorite is “Behold, behold, I stand at the door and knock, knock, knock”. He loves the knocking! We pray together (not scripted like “Now I Lay Me”) with his little hands folded in mine, and then Alex says “A-meee”. We always end with singing “God Is So Good”.

Right now, we’re reading the Eager Reader Bible. I found it on PaperbackSwap, and (to me) it’s a great blend of simplicity and factual Bible stories for a young child. We’re on our second reading of this book, and Alex is able to point to people in the illustrations & can answer some (very simple) questions. PaperBackSwap.com - Book Club to Swap, Trade & Exchange Books for Free.

We’re going to need a new Bible soon, and I’d LOVE a suggestion if you know of a good story Bible for young children. (Nothing too simplistic, though…I want a little “meat” to the story!)

So…hopefully I’ll have my camera out & ready to go next week! But for now, I’m glad to have recorded (for my sake & for Alex’s) a little peek into the other things we do together in our home.

We have been reading this bible through (a few times now):

http://www.amazon.com/Beginners-Bible-Timeless-Childrens-Stories/dp/0310709628/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266808290&sr=8-1

It does leave out some details.. but doesn't sugar coat things.

Gosh, I'm always on the lookout for a new Bible for Maddie. We have several, but I still haven't found on that I absolutely love for her.

I'll have to check out some of the suggestions posted here!

We LOVE THE Rhyme Bible Storybook. It is really neat. The stories in the book are true to the Bible and it's all done in rhyme. The girls both had one and Griffin used one of theirs. Used it so much that one of the books binding came loose. Highly recommend it. Below is a link to Amazon. Love that site. It was so good to see you all yesterday! Take care!

I just went back to Amazon site...saw they have a Rhyme Bible Storybook for Toddlers. Ours was the regular Rhyme Bible Storybook with the picture of the ark on the front...just FYI.

Not really what you are looking for, but we have a fun Bible Book that Sophie really enjoys. I use it though in the day time because it encourages movement, and acting out the stories. It is pretty simplistic, well very simplistic, but the acting portion really hits home with her.

Thank you for the website suggestions. My children love to play on my computer. The John Deere book looks cute too. I look forward to seeing what Bible you choose.
