This year, we are using Heart of Dakota’s Little Hearts For His Glory curriculum.
It is adaptable for children ages 5 – 7. To read more about our choice, CLICK HERE.
Alex is 6 years old.
Alex is learning right now that history is HIS story – the story of God’s world!
Have I ever mentioned that Bible time is Alex’s favorite part of school?
He just LOVES this time!
Acting out the Jesus’ triumphal entry – this is the road into Jerusalem.
Max and I waved (invisible) palm branches and called out, “Hosanna!”
We also read about Jesus raising Lazarus, crowds following Jesus, and Zaccheus.
Our Bible verse is Mark 11:9, “Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted,
“Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Our devotional reading was about keeping the Sabbath holy.
We are using All About Reading Level 2.
We worked on Lesson 1 of AAR Level 2 this week.
ALex really enjoyed this rocket activity!
After we finished, he asked if he could write me a message with the letter tiles.
I think it might have been a hint that he wanted a snack….what do you think?
He also had fun ‘feeding’ the anteater and reading the word on each ant.
(Please keep in mind that I have the older version of LHFHG, and if you purchase a new guide, your math will follow a different sequence than what we are doing. I created my own spreadsheet to match the math activities in the older version of LHFHG to the lessons in Singapore Essentials. It’s not perfect, but it will work for us!)
working on ordinal numbers – finding the hidden toy & saying, “It’s under the FOURTH cup.”First, clap your hands.
Second, touch your toes.
Third, touch your nose…
Oh yeah…a little ‘on paper’ practice, too
And I think this was a math lesson…some sort of game that all 3 children enjoyed!
When we read about Jesus healing blind Bartimaeus,
we read about the human eye in “The World God Made” science book.
We drew pictures while blindfolded.
We looked at our eye colors.
We took no pictures…
We also read about buying and selling in the temple, and how Jesus drove out the men who were doing so. Our science discovery included learning how to clean pennies. Alex LOVED this and stuck with it for a VERY long time!
We are using Happy Handwriting and Rod & Staff ABC series.
finishing Rod & Staff “Do It Carefully” workbook and beginning “Finding The Answers”
I highly, HIGHLY recommend these inexpensive workbooks!
working on ‘n’ in handwriting
This was our last week of Reddy Fox. Next week, we’ll begin a new book. Due to feeling rushed, we didn’t complete the sentence writing assignments this week, but we did do the oral comprehension questions each day. We just LOVE these books, and I love how Alex is now able to answer almost every comprehension question with ease. This is a skill that he has definitely been developing throughout the year.
I just realized, when I went back to the guide to see what I should put here, that we somehow completely missed the art project for this day! We weren’t able to do it on the assigned day, and I completely forgot to do it the next day!
The wonderful daily math & literacy pages from Dream Big Kinders…
These are not exactly Charlotte Mason style, but they are a brief, fun review
of math and phonics skills that both Alex & I enjoy!
