Little Hearts For His Glory, Unit 13

We finished Unit 15 this week, and I am just now posting Unit 13.  I will never be caught up, will I? :)

It seems that I didn’t take many pictures during this unit.  At least, I can’t find them if I did!  So this post is a little lacking compared to some.  Sorry!

This year, we are using Heart of Dakota’s Little Hearts For His Glory curriculum.
It is adaptable for children ages 5 – 7.  To read more about our choice,

Alex is 6 years old.

Alex is learning right now that history is HIS story – the story of God’s world!

We read about the crippled man whose friends brought him to Jesus.  They lowered him down through the roof because the house was too crowded to get in through the door.  We re-enacted the story with blocks.

We’ve been talking about Matthew 5:16 – we are the light of the world!

We are finishing All About Reading Level 1 – and moving on to level 2 – this year.

FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here’s Alex with his completed Level 1 AAR Chart!

All About Reading, AAR, Level 1

(Please keep in mind that I have the older version of LHFHG, and if you purchase a new guide, your math will follow a different sequence than what we are doing.  I created my own spreadsheet to match the math activities in the older version of LHFHG to the lessons in Singapore Essentials.  It’s not perfect, but it will work for us!)

counting practice with MARSHMALLOWS – yum!

I really debated what to do here, but Alex would NOT listen to my instructions.  As a result, he got one wrong.  I thought about having him correct it or showing him what would happen in a classroom setting.  No, I don’t want to replicate school at home…but I thought maybe this might be a lesson in making sure to obey the teacher.  So, I marked it wrong.  He was sad.  But guess what?  He has been less stubborn and more willing to listen.  Maybe it worked.  I don’t know…but he now knows what a check mark means.

When we learned about Jesus calming the storm, we explored water during our science time.  We placed drops of water on waxed paper, blowing and poking them to see what they do.  We watched as two drops ‘jumped’ together or as one drop was split into two.

We read about water in Alex’s science book, as well.

We are using Happy Handwriting and Rod & Staff ABC series.

We’re reading Danny Meadow Mouse right now, and Alex and Max are BOTH enjoying these stories!  The Burgess animal books are definitely different from modern children’s stories, but we are all enjoying the adventures of the animals in these books!

It is HARD sometimes to sit back and let my son take creative control.  This is his rendition of the boat when Jesus walked on water to reach his disciples in their boat.  He did a great job for a not-so-artistic little boy who wanted no assistance on this project!

These daily language and math practice pages are full of great skills!
Alex and I are both enjoying these pages from DreamBigKinders!
