WHAT did you feed me?!

Anyone care to guess what Jensyn just tried for the first time?

Each of my children has had this particular food for the first time at the same restaurant, with their nana there to witness it.  (No fair guessing if you were there with us!)  The boys both like this food, but they don’t eat it often.

Clue:  We were at White Fence Farm in Romeoville, IL.February2012 090

And So It Begins…

On Friday, I got my first “Well, I don’t like you!” from Alex.  I had asked him to put away the clean silverware from the dishwasher.  He didn’t want to do it, and I gently insisted that he needed to do his chore.  I replied, “I’m sorry to hear that, but I want you to know that I still love you.”

This morning, Alex was playing on his LeapPad.  I set the timer, and I told he must put away the LeapPad when the timer beeped.  He was less than thrilled when the timer went off, and he tried to ignore it.  I reminded him that he needed to shut off his toy now.

He looked at me and said, “Then I’m running away from this house!”

I replied, “I’m sorry to hear that.  I’m going to miss you!  Where will you go?”

He said, “I’m going to Grandma and Papa’s house.”

I said, “Oh, so you’ll be nice and close!  May I come visit you there once in a while?”

Alex said, “NO!  I will NOT let you come visit me!”

I asked him, “It’s very cold outside today.  Do you realize that it’s going to be a long, cold walk to Grandma & Papa’s house?”

He stood there for a minute, and then he said, “Uh, do you think you could drive me there?”

I’m not okay with sassy talk, and we don’t put up with it.  I did, however, have to really hold back a smile when we had this little conversation this morning.  How sweet that my 4 year old wants his mommy to help him run away from home :)

Alex :)

We are just so in love with the things that Alex says.  Sometimes we are amazed by the serious, thoughtful things he says.  Sometimes we laugh at the funny things he says.  (This boy has a good sense of humor!)

January2012 003

Last night, as I was tucking him in to bed, he had a good one…

I kissed him good night, and I told him, “I will ALWAYS love you – no matter what you say or what you do, Mommy will ALWAYS love you, buddy!”  (Once in a while, I like to remind him that my love for him is not dependent on his actions or behavior…)

Alex looked at me and said, “Uh, Mom, are you pretending to be God?”

-------------------

A few weeks ago, Alex was trying to convince us that they should go spend the day at Grandma and Papa’s house.  It wasn’t going to work out on that particular day, but Alex wasn’t about to give up on his plan.

After lots of pushing, he said, “But Mom, Max and I want to go to Grandma and Papa’s house to get some peace and quiet from YOU!”

He didn’t mean to be rude; I think he’s just heard me say that, once in a while, Grandma and Papa watch the kids so that Daddy & Mommy can have a peaceful dinner.

Alex was singing Jingle Bells today.  Yes, in February.  “Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse soap and sleigh…”  (We realized at Christmas time that he was singing it incorrectly.  We taught him the correct way, but once in a while he still forgets.

-------------

I think there are a few more, but I lost the slip of paper that I wrote them on.  (Do you do that?  How do you remember the cute things your kids say?)  Hopefully I’ll find that scrap of paper soon! :)

Jensyn – 10 Month Portraits

I wrote a 9 month post.  It’s still in draft mode, as the photos are all stored on our external hard drive, and I’ve been too lazy to drag that out and add the pictures to the post.  It really does exist, and someday I might just post it ;)

This is not a full 10 month post.  I’ll have to come back to add some everyday pictures and text.  I just thought I’d share from a photo shoot done by a friend who’s getting started in her own photography business.  (If you live in the area and I know you personally, I’d be happy to share the photographer info.)

These were taking on Jensyn’s 10 month birthday…

Psst…please don’t copy these or add them to Pinterest.  I can’t watermark these, but if I find that anyone has stolen my child’s picture, I might just have to hunt you down ;)

Feathers are not my thing…that was a photo prop.  Personally, I’d never stick a feather on my girly’s head.  It does make for a pretty cute picture, though! ;)

Reminder: Psst…please don’t copy these or add them to Pinterest.  I can’t watermark these, but if I find that anyone has stolen my child’s picture, I might just have to hunt you down ;)

I just can’t fathom how this little sweetheart has reached 10 months of age.  Where did this year go?!

Yes, they are free :)

I’ve received several e-mails in the past week wondering why most of my printables are free.  When I first decided to sell some of my printables, I think there was a brief explanation on the blog.  For those who are new, here’s why:

I want these to be a blessing to you!

Teachers tend to spend a LOT of their personal money on their classrooms each year.
Stay at home moms are sacrificing a paycheck to be home with their children.

The majority of the printables you’ll find here are free so that you, as moms and teachers, can use your resources in other ways.  Teaching young children can get expensive.  I’ve benefitted from many freely offered packs from Homeschool Creations, 2TeachingMommies, Confessions of a Homeschooler, Musings of Me, and Over The Big Moon.  I hope my packs can benefit you, too!

The paid packs are offered for two simple reasons:

(1) By offering some for a low price, I can pay for the graphics that I purchase to design the free printable packs.

(2) After graphics are purchased, any remaining profit made through selling printables (or the teeny, tiny bit that I might make through Amazon referrals) is used toward our computer ink, laminating sleeves, etc.

So, enjoy the freebies!  I love knowing that other families are using these to have fun while teaching their children!

Funnix Beginning Reading program – FREE DOWNLOAD

Have you heard of the book Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons?  I’d been reading about this book, and I was considering using it with Alex in the fall.  It has 716 reviews and 4.5 stars, which I’d consider a pretty good thing!

Well, the other day on MoneySavingMom’s website, she posted about a Funnix computer software that’s currently available for free.  I decided to check it out, and guess what…it’s the COMPUTER VERSION of Teach Your Child To Read!  And it’s currently FREE!

I did a quick Google search, found lots of happy reviews from Funnix users…and asked Keith if he’d mind if I downloaded it and used up 2 GB on our aging, slow computer… ;)

I can’t give a review on it yet, as Alex (and Max, who insisted on being included) has only completed one lesson.  I will say that, while it’s very basic in terms of fancy stuff and graphics, it held Alex’s attention throughout the entire interactive lesson.  (Be prepared – they ask your children to point to things on the computer screen.  Max’s little sticky hands made me VERY nervous, and Alex tried to point with the pen in his hand at one point.)

It comes with a .pdf file of the workbook and the teacher’s manual.  Alex was even excited to do the worksheet, and he happily completed all ten letter Cs for the handwriting section.    (You’re supposed to cross out all the lowercase a’s, but Alex thought his x’s looked bad, so he switched to circling…)

January2012

Maybe I’ll post an actual review when we’ve made some progress…or given up on it, although I doubt we will.

Anyway, just wanted to give you all a heads-up that this is available for free at www.funnix.com until February 16th.  After that, it will be $38…so, if you think you might use this at any point, download it now & save yourself 40 bucks! ;)

I Love Trucks (A FREE Valentine’s Pack for Boys)

Alex caught me looking online at Valentine's Day graphics.  He (very sweetly) told me that there was NO WAY he wanted to do any of that cutesy stuff.  We searched through graphics together until he spotted this set.  "Yes, Mommy!  THAT'S the one!"  So...while it was a bit of stretch...this pack was designed just for my little guy.  Perhaps you have a little guy who would prefer trucks and helicopters filled with hearts, too?  ;)
