Our little Max is already 3 months old. It still amazes me the way that moments can sometimes d-r-a-g, but times just FLIES!
Max is very alert. He loves to watch what's going on around him. He loves to watch his puppy and his big brother. The moving lights of the TV catch his attention. We can't help but love that adorable smile!
Max won't get weighed again until his 4 month visit, but I'd guess he's over 12 lbs by now. Last night, I pulled out his 3 - 6 month clothes. Some of his 0 -3 month clothes are starting to get too short or too tight. You can see how short his pants are getting in this picture:

He is getting very good at holding up his head independently. I'm putting him in the Bumbo seat more often, but he still likes it only for brief periods. When holding him, it's very rare for Max to just rest his head against you. He'd rather hold it up & look around.
(This picture cracks me up - that goofy little grin...)
He loves to lay under his play gym and bat at the toys. At first, it was accidental. We're almost positive that it's on purpose now, as he hits at them repeatedly, giving the toys big smiles.
Max giggled his first REAL giggle last week Wednesday at Grandma & Grandpa's house. Keith was in Pittsburgh, so he missed it. I was in the other room, but at least I got to hear that precious sound of a belly laugh! Max was sitting in Grandma's lap, I think, and he was giggling at Alex & Maggie (our dog) playing on the kitchen floor.
Max loves to just stare at people until they look at him, and then he flashes them a huge grin. He'll keep grinning and making happy noises for quite a while. Unfortunately, he rarely "talks" and grins at the person who is holding him - which means that most of his giant grins & "conversations" are not with Mama. I do get some good smiles and coos when he's on the changing table, though.
If we have a "stay-at-home" day, Max has a fairly predictable schedule. He gets up for the day between 7 and 7:30 AM. He goes down for a 45 nap around 9 or 9:30 AM. He'll nap again at lunch time, and this is often a 3 hour nap. He catnaps again in the early evening, then naps again around 8:30 or 9 PM. We should probably start putting him in bed at 8:30 or 9, but instead, he just sleeps in the bassinet until we go to bed at 10 or 10:30. I then wake him to put him in his jammies, swaddle him, nurse him, and he sleeps until around 4 AM. Then he nurses quickly and goes back to sleep until morning.
We very loosely follow the "Babywise" plan of eat, wake, sleep, repeat. Most mornings, I swaddle Max for his nap & put him in his crib to watch his mobile until he falls asleep independently. I break the rules by nursing him to sleep for his afternoon nap, as that's the only way he'll take a 3 hour nap...which I like, and it works for him. Then he sleeps on his tummy in the bassinet. For his other naps, I put him on his tummy in his bassinet when he's just starting to fall asleep.
Max still likes to nurse about every 3 hours, which is kind of often according to the books, but Alex was always that way, too. He's a quick nurser most of the time, and I wouldn't trade those snuggly times for anything in the world. To me, that's one of the best things about having a little one!
Max is still taking a bottle every evening, and he's doing a GREAT job! We've learned to wait - to get past a fussy point, holding out until he's truly hungry - and then he'll take 3 or so ounces without any hesitation. He even took 2 bottles over the weekend while Mama & Daddy went on a date. (Ahhh, a date! That was nice!)
He is a generally content baby, although at this point, I don't think his daddy would whole-heartedly agree. It seems that poor Daddy almost always get the "fussy Max". Why? I don't know. (Maybe because when Daddy's around, we don't follow our typical daytime schedule? Hmm...something to think about.) Max definitely has fussy times, and sometimes even has fussy days, but overall, he's a happy, easy-going baby.
We love this little guy so much! Grow slowly, sweet little guy. Mama's cherishing every baby moment!

Don't worry about what the books say about how often he should nurse. Go with your gut, which it sounds like you are doing. Every baby is different, and I am a firm believer that mommy knows best.
My girls were always fussier for Tony as babies. I think it's they just prefer the routine of what mom does. Maybe you are on to something with following the normal routine. It's certainly worth a try.
Sounds like everything is going well. You're closing in on or have reached the point where it all starts to be better. Hooray.
OH Dawn...he's so sweet! And growing so fast! All my kids had a fussy time seemed like it was late afternoon early evening....We usually headed outside around that time even when it was chilly bundled them up and out we went for a short walk around the farm checking things out...seems like the fresh air did them and momma some good! LOL!
Can't wait to meet the little guy!
I just loved "chatting" with him yesterday at Bible study! I think he and Skylar could get a pretty good converstation going! =)
I'm so glad we've finally moved into our new office because it means it will be easier for me to stay caught up with your blog about your adorable family! (Don't tell my boss, hahaha)
