Teddy Bear Toast

There’s a pin floating around on Pinterest and Facebook right now for the most adorable, SIMPLE teddy bear toast

We saw it this morning, and we just had to give it a try.  I shared it on my Little Monkey Printables Facebook page just for fun.

We made it for lunch today, and some friends of our did too!  We’ve shared our pictures on Facebook, and I’d like to invite you to do the sameCLICK HERE to see our pictures, and please feel free to add your own picture in the comments of the Facebook post.

We used Nutella due to a peanut butter allergy, and our friends subbed chocolate chips for the raisins.  It’s easy to change up this recipe to suit any taste buds!

Edible Cake Mix Playdough

We were searching for an edible playdough to take the place of the peanut butter playdough suggested in a project in our homeschool curriculum.  Alex is allergic to peanuts, and we needed a good, edible alternative.

I searched online, coming up with several different recipes that used cake mix.  We did our own thing after combining several recipes that we found, and we ended up with this simple recipe!  The playdough is a bit greasy, so don’t wear your best clothes for this edible fun!

This is NOT my own idea, but I don’t have an original source for the idea, so I don’t mind sharing it here.

Cake Mix Playdough

1 box white cake mix (reserve 1/4 cup)
1 stick margarine, softened (but NOT melted)
2 – 3 Tbsp water

In a mixing bowl, combine dry cake mix with margarine.  (Add food coloring now if desired.)  Use an electric mixer to ensure that it’s well mixed.  Slowly add in water until you have reached your desired consistency.  Use the reserved cake mix to thicken your dough if necessary.

My kids had TONS of fun with this dough! They helped make it, loved playing with it, and thought it tasted delicious!  (I agree – it was yummy!)  It’s definitely not healthy, so after a few bites, I told them to save a lot so they could play with it again later.

Kids In The Kitchen – Pumpkin Fun!

 September2011 239

I’d like to say that the craziness was only for the camera, but this was my Monday.  From 8 AM – 2 PM, I had three VERY EXUBERANT kids in my house.  By 10 AM, I knew we’d need a project or I’d go insane.  Why I chose a messy, crazy, sugary project…well, I might never know.  It did keep the kids busy, though!

In the morning, we worked together to make my favorite chocolate cut-out cookie dough.  YUM ~ everything’s better with chocolate!  (These cookies are soft and taste a lot like a brownie.)  Everybody took turns measuring and stirring.  We left the dough in the fridge to chill until after lunch.

Once it was chilled, we rolled it, cut it into pumpkins, and baked it.  Once the cookies cooled, we “painted” them with orange icing.  Then we decorated with green sprinkles and mini chocolate chips.

To be honest, Alex & Grace decorated their cookies.  Max just broke his cookie in half, ate the frosting from a spoon, and then ate his cookie.  No pumpkins for him! ;)

There was one three-eyed pumpkin, but the rest turned out pretty cute!  The craziness never left our house, but at least we contained the chaos to the kitchen counter for quite a while! ;)
